The most recent investment for the CISA testing lab is an anechoic chamber for measuring electromagnetic waves issuing from electronic devices, as required by the RED (Radio Equipment Directive) 2014/53/UE and previously R&TTE 1999/5/EC. The new equipment enables the lab to monitor electromagnetic emissions to protect both public health and the environment.
According to Gianluca Mattogno, EMEA Testing Laboratory Mechanical Manager:
“Having an accredited laboratory inside the company facility enables us to subject the products to severe testing throughout the whole development and production cycle. Thanks to our new anechoic chamber, we can measure both mechanical and electronic safety, thus helping protect consumer health and maximizing product performance.”
Innovation is further facilitated with the expansion of the measuring capacity of the anechoic chamber to include EMC Immunity Testing already in the pipeline for 2021, to be followed by official accreditation. The test allows to evaluate a device’s ability to function normally when exposed to different electrical field sources. It goes without saying that the ongoing training of the team, a total of ten engineers and senior technicians, plays a fundamental role in the evolution toward ever smarter security systems, which require highly specialized skills.
In this regard, Carlo Ammatuna, Electronic System Test Senior Engineering, explains:
“In the last years we have been shifting from purely mechanical to electronic and radio testing. This is a very broad field, which involves important issues such as the electronic safety of the batteries that power the devices and cyber security standards to protect critical data.”
